About Dave Cosens

Dave Cosens is based in Kent and covers all of the South East plus Destination Weddings.

"I have worked with images all my working life since training as a camera operator at 16 years of age. I went on to train as a scanner operator and retoucher. By the age of 19 I was working for myself offering all elements of image creation, manipulation and design to the commercial sector from my South London based studio. In 2001 I sold the business to look for new inspiration. Very quickly that became 'People'. Photography has always been more than a passion and to combine it with people was where it all came together for me. I love photographing weddings and dealing with all the different characters you encounter. I thrive on the buzz and unpredictability of the whole nature of such events. This is also very true with my Press and PR Photography where you may have only seconds/minutes to assess your situation and capture the best possible image that tells the story of that person or event.

In 2002 I was a partner in organising and managing probably the largest onsite photography event the UK has seen. With three seperate sites at Wembley, The NEC (Birmingham) and The SECC (Scotland), with a team of 22 staff at each site shooting twelve hours a day for over four weeks, non stop, means I have the experience and knowledge to advise, organise or manage your specific needs.

Over the years I have covered projects from training individuals to helping run courses and organising seminars. In 2006 I became Chairman of the South East Region and a Director of the MPA (Master Photographers Association) and sat on the National Executive Council, advising and voting on matters effecting professional photographers nationwide until 2012. I have always tried to put back into the profession that holds my passion.

I have consistantly strived to expand and improve my abilities which has led to winning awards from both The Master Photographers Association (MPA) and also The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP).  Awards include SWPP UK Press & PR Photographer of the Year, sponsored by Adobe Software, numerous monthly competitions plus MPA regional titles and national award certificates.

In 2012 I achieved one of my ambitions of covering a destination wedding. I was taken to the Greek Island of Santorini to photograph a wedding in 46 degrees heat. The following day we completed the photography with a Trash The Dress (TTD) on the rocks and in the sea, Yes! it can be the best job in the world :-) You can view the images here if you wish: Santorini Wedding Photography

In 2012 I got married myself (a great reminder of how it feels to be on the other side!!) and had a wonderful day. I love the involvement at a wedding and the positive, emotional reactions I get from the people I work for. My Press & PR work has taken me to such interesting places and to meet astounding people such as the Demelza House Hospice staff who I worked with, and contributed to, for many years right through to the Royal Family. Photography has never just been a job but a way of life and a complete passion. I would love to share this with you covering your special occasion, event or help you portray your passion, project or business. I look forward to meeting you.
